Marsha P. Johnson Sweater

Regular price $30.00 $0.00
Marsha P. Johnson is an iconic LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS activist. She played an active role in the history-making Stonewall riots, where she and other notable members of the LGBTQ community, like Sylvia Rivera, fought back against a homophobic police raid on June 28, 1969.

Because Johnson was gender-nonconforming (transgender was not a commonly used phrase at the time so Johnson did not identify as such, although many believe she would have today) her untimely death remains a "mystery." Her close friends believe she was murdered, while the bigoted NYPD were happy to drop the investigation and dismiss her death as a suicide.

Johnson's life and death reminds us that even the absolute most vulnerable members of society can change it, that history cannot be erased as long we continue to pass along our truth. Say her name.
